and affiliated to Arrhythmia Alliance – The Heart Rhythm Charity

The Walking Group is open to all PHSG members and has been in existence since 1997. It aims to develop wellbeing both physically and mentally by being outside in the natural environment and to promote new friendships and camaraderie.

If you would like any further information or fancy joining a walk, please get in touch by selecting the ‘Walking Group’ option on the Contact Us page

Walks are held every 10 days on alternate Wednesdays and Saturdays and are organised by Walking Group members who endeavour to source walks that suit all the walking members requirements.

Each walk allows for those who are able to walk up to 3 miles at a standard pace and also for those who prefer to walk around 1 mile at a slower pace.

The walks do not involve steep hills or tricky stiles and help is always at hand if required. Walking is at a pace that allows time to stop to admire views, observe the wonders of nature and enjoy bird song.

Lunch afterwards at a nearby pub adds a bit of incentive!

NEXT WALK – Saturday 18th April 10:30am

Bere Regis

Our next walk is around Bere Regis on Saturday, 18th April. It’s around a 4 mile walk with a fairly long uphill slope to the ridge resulting in a lovely view of the two villages, Bere Regis and Shitterton and surrounding countryside.

The walk continues through May’s Wood, a plantation of 100,000 trees, over 157 acre site. Brian May, the Queen guitarist, bought the land in 2013 and started the plantation of native deciduous trees and orchard fruit bearing trees. Hopefully some will be in full blossom. It was designed as a safe haven specifically to aid wildlife rehabilitation, including badgers and foxes.

The shorter walk will be on flatter ground with the option to either cross Bere Stream to visit Brian May’s plantation or walk pass the thatched cottages of Shitterton with a cut through via a boardwalk to Bere Regis. Mid morning drinks can be purchased at either pub – the Royal Oak or the Drax.

The walk starts at 10.30 am in Elder Road. Please all park on the RIGHT side of the road and be aware of any cars or cyclists passing.

IF INCLINES are not for you please join the walk suitable for your ability. Make sure you START with your chosen group so numbers in each group can be monitored.

At present there is no rain in the forecast but perhaps consider wearing layers of clothing so a top layer can be tied around your waist on uphill gradients.

Directions:- Depending on your location travel westwards on the A31 or A35 towards Bere Regis. At the Bere Regis roundabout take the exit signposted Wool. You will see the Royal Oak pub lying to your right. The second road to the right is Elder Road. About 70 yards up Elder Road park on the right.

Lunch venue is:-

The Greyhound, North Street, Winterborne Kingston, DT11 9AZ at 12:45

Directions:- Return to the roundabout outside Bere Regis. Turn left towards the Shell garage roundabout. Take the A31 exit leading east towards Wimborne. After a short distance (about 1/4 mile) take the road leading at an angle to the left towards Blandford.

Please RESERVE your lunch seat BY THURSDAY 16TH APRIL by messaging the Walking Group Coordinator
